Backdated 3.6L In Search Of Loving Home. – and suddenly here is an opportunity! Due to change of direction on a client build, this 3.6L backdated engine is available for purchase. Built from a 964 engine, and using 993 heads, 3.2L fan and alternator and custom RSR shroud, it has zero miles since assembly, and has brand new 50mm PMOs.  Check it out: It’s already on a pallet and ready to be strapped down and have a stamp glued to it. 993 heat exchangers, new fan and alternator, ready for your choice of 12 plug distributor (or other ignition) and …

Zuffenhaus 3.6MFI

MFI for Mary.

It’s been a while since we’ve updated; as we’ve been quite busy (and thankful for that!)  since our last post. We’ve been sorting our Celette benches, adding some in-house prototyping capability, continuing physical upfit (construction) of the facility, and making some strides on the Mary Stuart RSR project. Let’s talk about Mary. She’s getting proper MFI.  (If you know anything about us, you know this makes for big smiles around here.) The engine for this project is a 3.9l based on a 3.6, and as such was not designed for use with mechanical fuel injection, although the mounting bosses for the …

964 Backdate RSR

Just a quickie for Friday. This is the long overdue 964-to-1972 RSR build, on the rack for suspension rough-in. It’s the business, most assuredly. Initial rough-in is for ride height and rake decision-making, as well as creating a square and level base for hanging the front bodywork. Normally we’d set up a 964 nearly flat at the sills, but it just won’t say ‘911’ without some rake. This RSR is sans interior, trunk lid, fenders, fuel tank, and bumpers, but is respectably light even at this stage: Not bad for all-steel with sound-deadening. Completed project will have stereo, AC, and …

Mary Stuart RSR – milestone.

A milestone has been passed on the MSRSR. FINALLY, off comes the Close Encounters inspired construction! Like a carefully constructed Easter egg, the temporary Mary Stuart body work is cracked open and removed from the 911 underneath. The carbon body work, having been completed and deemed suitable for installation (understatement – these panels are extraordinary!) is replacing the mocked-up body panels on the 911 shell. The panels in question: First, the fenders are removed: A flange is left around the perimeter of the panel – this will be the bonding surface for attaching the carbon panel. The flange shown is …

Backdate Oil Lines, anyone?

We thought you 964 back-daters and hot-rodders would appreciate this. These are back-dated hard oil lines for a 964, which allow relocation of the thermostat to clean up the lower rocker area and capitalize on the ’73 RSR look: Currently being fine-tuned for production, these will be manufactured in stainless and will have Kevlar-braided/PTFE lightweight hose crimped on each end. Proper metric female fittings will be crimped on the opposing end of the hose sections for direct attachment to oil coolers and the relocated 964 thermostat – less fittings for less potential leak points! The thermostat side of the lines …

911RS Backdate Steering Wheel

Pictured above is the business end of THE SOLUTION for mounting the historic 380mm RS/RSR Steering Wheel (or the vintage 400mm for that matter) on the ’74-’89 911 steering column. Zuffenhaus Products has developed this 2-piece Hub assembly as part of our product catalogue specifically for backdate applications – now it is no longer necessary to become part of the legion of prototipo & accordian-style hub users when backdating your SC or Carrera! We’ll be adding this product to our webstore shortly, but thought you’d appreciate some photographs of the wheel/hub combo in the meantime: The pictures above show the …

H/H RSR.

Pictured above is a 911 that has quite a history with Zuffenhaus. It was, in fact, the first project to be taken on by the formalized racing & fabrication branch of our company. Through the years circumstance has brought Zuffenhaus and the H/H RSR together repeatedly. Our first involvement with this 911 occurred in 2005, preparing it to compete in the Targa Newfoundland with the fabrication of a full cage and associated safety equipment. It was a modest, blue 1981 SC at the time. The 911 returned from Newfoundland a crumpled mess – having rolled several times at high speed …

RSR fiberglass

No, not the challenging aftermarket bumpers/tail – the engine compartment ‘glass inspired by the historic Porsche race engines. Here are some pictures of what I’m referring to, taken from engine bay of a fellow rGruppe member’s ’72. Being the barely-amateur iPhone photographer that I am, I can’t possibly capture the light, texture, and tone of raw engine compartment fiberglass. Coupled with patinated aluminum and magnesium and yellow cad plated fasteners it creates a stunning, vintage aesthetic worthy of cooling fan whine and gutteral sport muffler sounds.

Intermission (Treffen)

964 AS BACK DATE PLATFORM Our visit to SVD got us thinking about the Zuffenhaus 964-based RSR that is now in assembly stage, as shown here: (please excuse the shop rag – the dust bunnies of our industry) The 964 is the ultimate back date platform – body panels and lines that do not stray far from the original pen but mechanical system developments that provide for chassis rigidity, functional climate controls, antilock brakes, and effective drivetrain right out of the box. SVD puts their signature on the 964 chassis as is well documented in the press – a synthesis …
